Ask The Pros is a column in which various professional Magic: The Gathering players answer questions from Sideboard readers. To submit a question for Ask the Pros, e-mail monty@wizards.com with "Ask the Pros" as the subject line. These questions will be asked of many different pros, so try not to have them be too specific (like "How did it feel to win Pro Tour-New York in 1998"?

Q: What's your favorite Magic expansion and why?

Alexander Blumke: Fallen Empires. It was very well built with a very good background story: 10 different tribes, 2 in each color, fighting each other within each color (dwarves against goblins and orc, Order of the Ebon Hand against thrulls, elves against thallids, merfolk against homarids, and Order of Leitbur against farrelites), and they fought for raw survival in a collapsing world. Moreover, the cards were fun to play with.

Chris Manners: Fallen Empires. Boosters are cheap.

Andreas Pischner: Visions. It combines strong cards with intriguing play mechanisms and good limited play, and it marked the time when Green started coming into its own.

Terry Tsang: Beta - it's the most expensive.

Cary Newburger: Ice Age. Those were the days. People played with creatures and games lasted longer than five turns.
